American-Israeli crosses border to Jordan, captured by forces
An Israeli in his 40s on Thursday crossed Israel’s eastern border to Jordan and was captured by Jordanian forces, Channel 13 reported.
Negotiations between Israeli and Jordanian officials for the man’s release are reportedly underway.
The man, a resident of northern Israel, drove down to the small moshav of Paran in the Arava region, where he exited his car and crossed the border on foot before he was spotted and captured by Jordan.
The Israeli, a holder of an American citizenship, was interrogated by Jordanian security forces ahead of his release back to Israel, Walla reported.
This is the second incident of an Israeli illegally crossing a border in the same week.
An Israeli resident of Bedouin village Arab Al-Aramshe crossed into Lebanon in the early hours of Wednesday morning and was returned across the border and subsequently arrested by security forces.
In January, IDF troops arrested two migrant workers from Sudan who crossed into Israel from Lebanon.
According to data released by the IDF, the Israeli military thwarted nine attempts to infiltrate from Lebanon and two from Syria in 2021. It also confiscated 120 kg. of drugs and 75 weapons carried by smugglers over the last year.
